Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is offering a class to help families prepare for emergencies on Thursday, Sept. 27, at 3 p.m. or 6 p.m. Each class will be held in the Shavano Room of the Touber Building, 441 E. First St., Salida.
Participants will learn how to create a family disaster plan, communicate with one another when phones are down, make a family-disaster supplies kit, and more.
"Natural disasters are becoming more powerful, more destructive and more deadly. The only way we can combat these disasters, protect our loved ones and dependents, and recover afterward is by preparing ahead of time,” said HRRMC Emergency Management Coordinator Mark Rowland.
"The fundamentals are simple: Have a plan, make a kit and practice with your family.”
The class is open to the general public, and community members are asked to RSVP by Wednesday, Sept. 26.
