John Dickson honored as hospital TRAC STAR

Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center named John Dickson of Salida its second-quarter 4 people with a cakeTRAC STAR at a hospital ceremony on July 30.

TRAC STAR is an acronym for the core values that guide HRRMC employee performance: teamwork, recognition, attitude, customer service, safety, talent, accountability and respect. The TRAC STAR award recognizes outstanding employees and is presented quarterly.

Dickson has worked as the team leader of the Environmental Services staff for 10 years. In 2016, he was instrumental in introducing the CHEST certification, which sets national standards for EVS technicians working in healthcare. HRRMC was one of the first hospitals in the nation to make this certification mandatory for its EVS team members.

According to the employee who nominated Dickson for TRAC STAR, “John is an exemplary role model for his team...No matter how staffed or short-handed we are, he is right there in the trenches with us doing more than his part.”

Hospital CEO Bob Morasko presented Dickson with a $200 gift check, a jacket with the hospital's TRAC logo, and a certificate to be professionally photographed. A plaque with his photo will be displayed in the hospital café.

Morasko also acknowledged the other two finalists for the quarterly award, Lori Kramer and Danny Gallegos, both of Salida.

Kramer, a scheduling coordinator for the Cardiopulmonary Department, was singled out for being “a great team player” and learning the Aprima software “to help with continuity of care between the hospital and clinics.” Her customer service skills were described in her nomination as “some of the best.”

Gallegos, an Information Systems support tech, “consistently puts others first,” according to his nomination. “If you need assistance, he is quick to come to the rescue, no matter the need…If you do not need help, he is still going to offer. He is one of those you WANT on your team.”

HRRMC employees can nominate any of their colleagues for the TRAC STAR award. Members of the hospital's Communications Team review all nominations, and then cast individual ballots to determine the finalists and winner. All finalists are eligible to be named TRAC STAR of the Year.
