January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, and the Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation is partnering with Planned Parenthood and Chaffee County Public Health to raise awareness of the importance of regular preventive screening.
The HRRMC Foundation is sponsoring a women’s health information booth on Tuesday, Jan. 23, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the hospital’s main lobby, 1000 Rush Dr., Salida. HRRMC gynecologist Dr. Terri Rosenbaum and Planned Parenthood nurse practitioner Karen Adamson will be available to answer questions and help women determine what testing or screenings are appropriate for them.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 13,240 new cases of invasive cervical cancer will be diagnosed in 2018; 4,170 of which will result in death. Cervical cancer is highly preventable with regular screening tests and appropriate follow-up care. It can also be successfully treated when found early.
This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call (719) 207-2088.
