The Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation recently announced the 2017 recipients of the Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship. Robert Schumann of Buena Vista and Desmond Lau of Salida were both awarded $1,000 college scholarships.
Schumann will attend Colorado State University in Fort Collins and plans to study biomedical sciences with the goal of becoming a physical therapist.
Lau plans to attend Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction and will study exercise science and nutrition. His goal is to become a personal trainer and nutritionist.
Prerequisites of the scholarship include declaring a major in a healthcare-related field; attending public school within the Salida Hospital District; a narrative explaining why they would like to receive the award; an outline of extracurricular activities; two letters of recommendation; and a copy of the student’s high school transcript.
The Dr. William G. Mehos Scholarship Program began in 2004. All applications are reviewed by a selection committee and scored on pre-established criteria.
The HRRMC Foundation provides the hospital with financial support to facilitate innovative programs and provide state-of-the-art healthcare services to the Salida Hospital District.
