Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation recently awarded $2,500 scholarships to Lindsey Fagerberg of Buena Vista and Riley Johnson of Salida.
Fagerberg is currently studying biomedical engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana. After her graduation in May 2018, she plans to serve on a medical-mission team and then pursue a medical degree with the goal of becoming a pediatrician.
Johnson is working toward a medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan. She has volunteered for First-Hand Aid, an organization that delivers medical supplies and support to rural Cuba. Once she completes her medical degree, Johnson plans to apply for a residency program.
The HRRMC Foundation scholarship is available to any college or university student who lives or has lived within the Salida Hospital District, which encompasses Chaffee, western Fremont and northern Saguache counties. Applicants who plan to enter the health care field with a minimum of 24 college-credit hours and a grade point average of 3.2 or higher are encouraged to apply.
Applications for the 2018 scholarship will be available next May and will be due June 15, 2018. For more information, please call Foundation Director Kimla Robinson at (719) 530-2218.
