HRRMC installs fitness equipment donated by Rotary Club of Salida

HRRMC recently installed a piece of exercise equipment, donated by the Rotary Club of Salida, on11 people outside the public walking trail around the hospital campus. The machine focuses on chest- and back-strengthening exercises and is located at the southeast corner of the trail near the medical office buildings.

“HRRMC intends to make continued improvements to the trail as the campus expands and area trails become connected,” said HRRMC Wellness U Supervisor Jon Fritz. “The equipment gives trail users access to strength training in addition to the walking.”

The equipment is outdoor-grade and requires little maintenance. The Rotary Club contributed $5,745 in May to purchase the equipment with $3,245 donated by the Rotary Club of Salida and the balance of $2,500 awarded through a grant from Rotary District 5470.

Fritz said that the hospital eventually plans to locate five to eight machines along the trail to encourage wellness within the community.

"The donation of the fitness equipment to HRRMC is a community service project of the Rotary Club of Salida and is intended to help promote a healthy lifestyle in the Salida area,” said president Gary Bishop. “Money raised at our annual Bluegrass on the Arkansas music festival and at our food and beverage sales during Salida's Fourth of July celebration help pay for our community service projects like this. Those monies also pay for our youth service projects such as, but not limited to, scholarships for select high school seniors, dictionaries for all Salida third grade students, and participation by select high school students in the annual Rotary Youth Leadership Assembly in Glenwood Springs."

The walking trail and exercise equipment are available for use by the community 24/7. If you’d like to learn more about wellness initiatives at HRRMC, visit www.hrrmc.com or call Wellness U at (719) 530-2057.
