William Schroeder, D.O., has joined the medical staff of Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center and will specialize in internal medicine and integrative medicine at the HRRMC Specialty Clinic, 1000 Rush Dr., Salida.
Dr. Schroeder is board certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine and completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the University of Arizona School of Medicine under Dr. Andrew Weil.
Before relocating to the Upper Arkansas Valley, he worked for 16 years as a solo practitioner at Woodland Integrative Medicine in Woodland Park, Colorado. Prior to that Dr. Schroeder served as the medical director at the Cripple Creek Rehabilitation and Wellness Center. He has also worked at Peak Vista Community Health Centers and Network Health Centers.
Dr. Schroeder earned his osteopathic medical degree from Des Moines University and did an internship in osteopathic medicine at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, Michigan. He completed an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and a second residency in internal medicine at Spokane Internal Medicine in Spokane, Washington.
Integrative medicine is a style of care that focuses on the patient and addresses not just disease treatment and prevention but optimizing health, according to Dr. Schroeder.
"When appropriate, I select the safest, most effective and scientifically valid methods from a wide variety of complementary disciplines. I then integrate them with Western medicine based on a holistic assessment of a patient's needs and desires," he said. "I am pleased to be able to offer these options as a skill beyond my training as an osteopathic internal medicine physician."
Dr. Schroeder specializes in healthy aging and in complex and difficult cases including a variety of chronic diseases, chronic fatigue, thyroid disorders, anxiety, depression and stress, low testosterone, post-menopausal hormone replacement, and metabolic disorders.
"Dr. Schroeder's experience and training in both internal medicine and integrative medicine is unique and will provide patients in our service area another opportunity to have comprehensive care locally," said CEO Bob Morasko. "We are very fortunate to have him on our medical staff."
Dr. Schroeder is now accepting new patients. For more information or to make an appointment at the HRRMC Specialty Clinic, call (719) 530-2204.
