Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center Foundation recently awarded two $2,500 scholarships to Christy Coggins of Denver and Tracy McConathy of Poncha Springs.
Coggins is currently a junior at Metropolitan State University in Denver, pursuing a bachelor's degree in human nutrition. She has been accepted into the didactic program of dietetics and will complete an internship following graduation to obtain her license as a registered dietitian. Coggins grew up in Buena Vista and graduated from Buena Vista High School in 2008.
McConathy is a registered nurse who currently serves as charge nurse for the HRRMC Medical-Surgical Unit. She is pursuing a bachelor's degree in nursing through Chamberlain College of Nursing. McConathy began her career at age 18 after obtaining her licensed practical nursing certification and lives in Poncha Springs with her husband and two children.
The HRRMC Foundation scholarship is available to any college or university student who lives or has lived within the Salida Hospital District, which encompasses Chaffee, western Fremont and northern Saguache counties. Applicants who plan to enter the health care field with a minimum of 24 college credit hours and a minimum grade point average of 3.2 are encouraged to apply.
